Greetings,

Today I want to demonstrate the results of an eyebrow transplant I performed on an African American female patient. I always let patients know that since I am taking the donor hair from the scalp, the eyebrow hair that grows in after the eyebrow transplant will resemble the character of the scalp hair. For this reason patients with straight hair on their scalp have the closest resemblance to typical eyebrow hair. In patients with very curly hair I do advise them that they will probably want to trim their eyebrow hair on the shorter side in order to maintain the most natural look to the eyebrows post eyebrow transplant. However, as you can see from the photos below, this patient who has very curly scalp hair still has a very nice cosmetic result after only a single eyebrow transplant procedure. I transplanted approximately 300 grafts per eyebrow on this initial procedure.

Eyebrow Transplant

Greetings,

Today I will discuss the first few weeks following Eyebrow Transplant surgery. Eyebrow Transplantation has become a much more popular procedure as of late. More people are discovering how effective and natural the procedure can be when performed by the right surgeon. I was one of the first surgeons in the country performing the procedure and as such have had the opportunity to perform a great number of cases. In addition, I have refined the overall technique in ways that greatly improve both the immediate post operative period and the final result.

In a typical Eyebrow Transplant procedure I will place between 100-300 single hair grafts per eyebrow. The number depends on the patients facial symmetry, gender, hair color, and eyebrow hair loss, among other factors. The entire procedure is performed under local anesthetic. In the immediate post operative period I tell patients that they should expect to see some swelling around the eyes and possibly even some bruising around the eyes. This typically peaks at around day 3 and resolves by day 5. Within 24 hours of the grafts being placed they form tiny scabs around the grafts that look like little grains of sand. Immediately after the procedure the patient gets a good idea of how the eyebrows will eventually look because I place the eyebrow hairs at about the same length as typical eyebrow hairs. Within a week most of the crusts fall out and a few of the transplanted hairs may fall out, but for the most part the patient is left with most of the new transplanted eyebrow hairs. Beginning in the second week the transplanted eyebrow hair grafts begin to fall out. Usually by the end of the first month, most of the transplanted eyebrow hair grafts have fallen out and the patient is left with eyebrows similar to what they had before the procedure. During this “in between” time the patient may continue to put on eyebrow makeup just as they did before the procedure.

At around 3 months post eyebrow transplant the new eyebrow hair grafts begin to grow in. Usually the patient will notice more hair between 4-6 months post operatively and at 12 months the patient will see the full result from the eyebrow transplant procedure. Below I will show a patient of mine pre operatively and 2 weeks post operatively to give you an idea of the typical look in the immediate post operative period.

Greetings,

Here is a patient I just performed an eyebrow transplant on. eyebrow transplant patient photos  are shown 2 weeks after the procedure. Some of the grafts have already fallen out as the grafts begin to shed after about 7 days. The grafts all begin to regrow at 8-12 weeks and by 6 months about 60% of the new hairs are growing. As you can see from the photos there is very little redness or crusting present. This patient received approximately 350 grafts to each eyebrow in this eyebrow transplant procedure.

Greetings,

Here is a new video I just edited that demonstrates my approach to eyebrow transplants and eyebrow restoration. In the video I demonstrate the shape and angulation of the hairs in the eyebrow which are all crucial to the most natural final result.

I hope you enjoy.

Greetings,

Here is a patient of mine who received approximately 300 eyebrow transplant grafts to each eyebrow. The results are shown after 1 year. As you can see the patient had very few eyebrow hairs prior to the procedure, secondary to over plucking and genetically thin eyebrows. The patient also has very fine, light colored hair.

Greetings,

Here is a patient of mine who received 746 grafts to both eyebrows 4 days prior. There is minimal residual swelling present and some minor crusting, but the overall photos give a very nice idea of what the final result of the eyebrow transplant will look like after the new hair is all grown in. Typically most of the transplanted hairs will fall off after 1-4 weeks. The new follicles leave stem cells in the dermis that will sprout the new eyebrow hair follicles after 12 weeks. The final  result will be visible after about 9 months, but there will be a marked improvement after 6 months.

This patient is thrilled with how her eyebrows look now immediately after the eyebrow transplant procedure, and I will follow up this post with 6-9 month post procedure photos in the future.

All the best.

Greetings,

Today I would like to present the results of an eyebrow transplant I performed on a patient with Ulerythema Ophryogenes. This patient is a young man in his early 20’s who experienced the loss of the outer half of both his eyebrows. He was treated by Dermatology with a variety of topical medications which helped with the redness but did not grow back and of the eyebrow hair. I performed an eyebrow transplant placing approximately 250 grafts in each eyebrow and the results are shown below 12 months after the procedure. The patient is so happy with his results and states that this procedure has changed his life for the better. The lack of eyebrow hair was really affecting his self confidence and since the eyebrow transplant procedure he feels much better and more self confident.

All the best,

Greetings,

In the past few years more and more celebrities have gone public with their experiences of hair transplant procedures and how they have changed their lives for the better. In the past most famous people were reluctant to talk about their experiences, but as results have improved, more people are willing to discuss their experience with hair transplantation. Just recently A.J. McLean has come forward to show photos of his transformation through a hair transplant procedure and has discussed how it has changed his life. These celebrity “testimonials” will only serve to make more people aware of how amazing this procedure can be when performed properly by the “right” physician.

I personally have performed numerous procedures on well known individuals from all walks of life and I have seen the changes both aesthetically and psychologically. The changes I have seen are remarkable and I feel so lucky to be a part of this field that allows me to be involved in such amazing transformations.

Most importantly, do you due diligence prior to choosing your hair transplant surgeon and choose someone who’s results you are comfortable with, and who’s demeanor you connect with. If you feel comfortable with both of these things, there is a good chance you are choosing the right physician for your hair transplant procedure.

Greetings,

Today I will demonstrate a case I recently performed utilizing FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) to harvest the individual follicles and subsequently transplanted the follicles into and eyebrow scar. Traditionally I would not usually perform FUE in an eyebrow transplant case as it only requires a small incision in order to harvest the number of follicles necessary in order to restore typical eyebrows to normal appearing density. In patients who insist on shaving their hair extremely short (#2 buzz cut or shorter) FUE is a better option in order to make sure that the scar does not show through. In a small FUE case I do not have to shave the entire donor area, and can shave a small strip of hair to harvest the donor follicles and then the patient can cover the donor region by combing the hair above over the shaved area. As you can see from these results the transplanted follicles into the scar grey very nicely and the patient was very happy with the final outcome. I have also used FUE to harvest follicles from the neck in order to transplant into mustache scars (in patients with cleft palate deformities and others) and other beard scars with excellent results. Below I have shown the before and after photos of this patient with the eyebrow scar.
